About This Tour

Rajasthan — the "Land of Kings" — is India at its most regal, romantic and visually magnificent. No other region of the country offers such a concentration of fairy-tale palaces, mighty desert fortresses, colourful festivals and vibrant bazaars.

Over ten extraordinary days, this tour takes you on a royal journey through four of Rajasthan's most captivating cities. Begin in Jaipur, the Pink City — a magnificent planned city built by Maharaja Jai Singh II in 1727, famed for its rose-pink buildings, the stunning Amber Fort, the ornate Hawa Mahal and the astronomical precision of Jantar Mantar. Jaipur is also one of India's great shopping destinations, renowned for its gemstones, hand-block-printed textiles and silverware.

From Jaipur, travel to Jodhpur, the Blue City, dominated by the colossal Mehrangarh Fort — one of the largest forts in India — whose ramparts tower 120 metres above the blue-painted houses of the old city. The fort's museum houses one of the finest collections of Rajasthani artefacts in existence. The views from its bastions across the indigo rooftops to the Thar Desert are unforgettable.

Continue to Udaipur, the City of Lakes — arguably the most romantic city in all of India. Built around a series of interconnected lakes, Udaipur is dominated by the magnificent City Palace complex, which rises directly from the shores of Lake Pichola. The Lake Palace Hotel, floating like a marble mirage in the middle of the lake, is one of the world's most photographed buildings. Udaipur's narrow lanes are filled with art galleries, craft workshops and rooftop restaurants with dreamy lake views.

The journey concludes in Jaisalmer, the Golden City — a medieval fortress city rising from the Thar Desert, its honey-yellow sandstone ramparts still housing a living community of temples, havelis (merchants' mansions) and narrow winding streets. An overnight camel safari into the sand dunes at Sam is one of the most romantic experiences in all of India.

Throughout this tour, you will stay in carefully selected heritage properties — restored palaces, havelis and forts — that place you at the very heart of Rajasthan's magnificent history.

Hospitality

Rajasthanis are famed for their legendary hospitality. The concept of "Atithi Devo Bhava" (the guest is God) is taken very seriously here.

Arts & Crafts

Rajasthan is India's richest region for traditional crafts: blue pottery (Jaipur), block printing (Sanganer), miniature painting, puppet-making, lacquer bangles and silver jewellery.

Music & Dance

The folk music and dance traditions of Rajasthan — particularly the spectacular Kalbelia snake-charmer dance — are recognised by UNESCO as an intangible cultural heritage of humanity.

Cuisine

Rajasthani cuisine is bold and hearty, born of the desert environment. Dal baati churma, laal maas (spicy mutton curry), gatte ki sabzi and malpua sweet are must-tries.
